Common Sources of Water Leaks
August, 10th, 2012
Water leaks can rob you of your money without you even realizing it. There are some common places to start looking for water leaks if you suspect that there is a leak somewhere in your home.
Toilets are one of the most common places for water leaks because the working parts are always submerged in water and because it gets used a lot. Over time corrosion can build up and the parts inside the toilet bowl will get worn out.
Faucets are a more visible place for leaks to occur and are often the result of a rubber washer going bad under the handle. Sink faucets tend to be an easy fix if you consider yourself a do-it-yourself kind of person. If you aren’t comfortable doing it yourself or if it is a bathtub faucet, your best bet is to call a professional plumber who will be able to easily take care of the problem for you.
Washing machines have three times the chance to leak because they have a cold water hose, a hot water hose and a drain hose. Therefore, if you think your washing machine is leaking, be sure to check all three hoses. These hoses, like anything else in life, wear out in time. It could be as simple as a worn out rubber washer at the connection or the hoses can become bulge or crack.
Any leak in your plumbing system should be addressed immediately. Plumbing leaks can cause a lot of damage and should never be let go.
