August, 27th, 2012
As a homeowner, the day will come when you will need the expertise of a plumber. When the time comes, make sure you know the right questions to ask before you hire anyone.
What type of license do you and your employees have? Most people do not realize that there are several types of plumbing licenses. There are plumbing contractors, journeyman plumbers, and master plumbers. There are also restricted licenses for each of the above.
Are they members of the Better Business Bureau and do they have references that can be called? Being a member of the Better Business Bureau will enable you to better check their work and ratings.
Do you give guaranteed written estimates? Make sure that the plumber uses only quality materials and that it is included in the written estimate. Also, be sure that the cost of all needed permits is included.
What are your service rates and are there extra fees associated with your work? Be sure that you know beforehand, if they charge extra for travel time, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Is 24 hour emergency service available and what is your average response time? You never want to find yourself in six inches of water at midnight and then find out the plumber doesn’t offer 24 hour service or that it will take three or four hours before they can be to your home.
Be sure that you take the time to ask the right questions, and find out everything you can about the plumber before you hire anyone. You need to be confident with your decision before you sign a contract and after the work is done.
