Question: Question: Water is leaking, and I don’t know how to get it shut off. Please help! Answer: Locate and shut off the corresponding valve by turning the handle clockwise. Typical valve locations are as follows: • Sinks – Directly beneath the sink, inside the cabinet. • Toilet – Left hand side near the floor. • Outside Faucet – On a pipe connecting to the outside faucet, usually within a 30’ radius. • Water Heater – On top of the water heater or with a 1 – 3’ radius. • Dishwasher – Beneath the kitchen sink cabinet. • Washing Machine – Directly behind the washer; follow the hoses to the valve. • All other leaks – Shut off the main valve. This is located where the water service comes into the home (basement, crawl space, utility closet). If the location is unknown, call local water department. If the water service is from a well, locate the circuit breaker/fuse box and turn off the power supply to the well pump. Question: What are the effects of high water pressure? Answer: Consistently high water pressure (anything over 80psi), can cause a variety of issues including, but not limited to, the following: • Leaks on water piping • Leaking faucets • Leaking shower heads • Leaking toilets • Leaking water heaters • Banging water pipes • Damage to faucets, dishwasher, washing machine
